Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. (James 1:2-4)
For those of you who have decided that your tomorrow has arrived, I need to let you in on a wellness secret: if you are completely changing your habits, your lifestyle, and transforming your health and body, it will take time. Do not expect to lose 20 pounds in a week, meet your goal weight in a month (unless it's 5-8 lbs), and you certainly will not get anywhere if you quit.
I have had clients who after one month have started complaining they are not seeting results. One month, that is all. One month in and they are ready to quit because it takes effort, some discipline, and daily choices. Rarely have I seen a total transformation in only one month's time. On the few occassion this happens, the individual has drastically changed their eating habits and has chosen to workout daily, and with intensity.
For most, I have to remind them that here in the real world, things do not work like they do on a certain TV weight loss show. In the real world, you are not isolated and separated from most places and people who have been sources to temptation. You have responsibilities of family, work, faith, and so much more. Essentially, you have to choose to make wellness habits a part of your day.
Regardless of where you are in your wellness journey, I want to encourage you to simply keep going. You will forever be frustrated if you do not strive to make health a daily choice in your life. Surround yourself with people who are choosing health, and therefore life. And if you must, separate yourself from those who do not seem to get it: you are making life changes to better serve and represent an eternal kingdom.
